Copper Pavilion

The Copper Pavilion was made possible through a generous donation from John and Jane Matz. It is located west of the Phyllis and John Seaman Garden. The centerpiece of the exhibit—the Guinness world record-holding 17-ton native copper slab in the Copper Pavilion—was recovered from Great Sand Bay in Lake Superior and is on permanent loan from the State of Michigan, Department of Natural Resources.

While the large slab of native copper on exhibit in the Copper Pavilion is impressive, single masses of native copper weighing up to 400 tons were found in the mines.
