Keweenaw Mineral Days provides legal surface prepared mineral collecting on rock piles of former native copper mines in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Hosted by the A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum in collaboration with Keweenaw Gem and Gift, Inc.

We plan to open registration April 1, 2020 pending developments in regards to COVID 19.

Keweenaw Mineral Days consists of four opportunities to collect minerals at rock piles in the Keweenaw Peninsula. We recommend you read the Additional Information provided below. In addition to mineral collecting the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and Keweenaw Gem and Gift will hold sales for registrants on Thursday. Admission fee to the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum is waived for registrants during Keweenaw Mineral Days.

Adults 18 years and older can participate but must read and acknowledge the Liability Waiver. Minors between ages of 13 and 17 can participate when accompanied by an adult or guardian but a Liability Waiver must be completed. 


Monday July 13 through Saturday July 18 Free admission for registered participants to the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum and 15% discount on select minerals purchased from the gift shop.

Tuesday July 14: 10 am to 3 pm Seneca Mine prepared surface mineral collecting (separate registration required)  

Wednesday July 15: 10 am to 3 pm Wolverine #2 Mine prepared surface mineral collecting (separate registration required) 

Thursday July 16: Events for registered participants (Thursday schedule subject to change)

- 9 am to noon: Surplus Inventory Sale at A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum (15% discount for registered participants)

- 9 am to 5 pm: A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum Gift Shop Sale (15% discount on gift shop merchandise for registed participants)

- 3 pm to 4 pm: Celebrate Ted Bornhorst's retirement and 15 years of Keweenaw Mineral Days at  A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum

- 10 am to 6 pm Keweenaw Gem and Gift Open House and Sale (15% discount on merchandise for registered participants)

Friday July 17: 10 am to 3 pm Seneca Mine Prepared surface mineral collecting (separate registration required)

Saturday July 18: 10 am to 3 pm Central Mine Prepared surface mineral collecting (separate registration required)

There are two steps to registering: 1) General Event registration which covers admission to the museum and Thursday events and sales; and 2) Collecting Event registration as you must separately register for the collecting site you want to attend. There are a limited number of participants for each collecting event.
